Effective Use of National Crime Information Center
(FS 000308) April 2005
Fact Sheet, 4 page(s)

Outlines critical guidelines for registering an abducted child into the National Crime Information Center (NCIC) and suggestions for improving NCIC to increase the likelihood of recovering a missing child. This fact sheet stresses the importance of properly utilizing NCIC by entering and updating information in the database as quickly as possible using the correct NCIC categorization, and by flagging records as AMBER Alerts are issued, so that correct data may be disseminated in a timely manner. Analyzing NCIC and FBI reports for trends in data accuracy, and maintaining up-to-date training of all related personnel assist in increasing the proficiency of NCIC services.
